Will be produced to make you very sorry that you did not pay the bribe right away. And that means that the law exists to help those in power to commit the crime of extortion, and to force those who are powerless to commit the crime of bribery. If there is no policeman around, you drive however you like. This means that there is no law at all when nobody is watching – and that is very bad, as the law has an extremely important function: it prevents conflicts and accidents, and fairly resolves those that do occur.

This is why the law is so badly formulated and is such a mess: those who pass the laws do not really care what the law is like, because should the need arise, they expect to be able to break it, not just with impunity but by flaunting and advertising the fact. Russian law is what it is because from the very beginning, those who wrote it meant to break it. And this law is cruel and demeaning because those who cannot break it are not thought of as worthy anyway: remember, a god can disregard the law of gravity, and humans are not worthy because they own no property.

Russian society is based on the lose/lose principle of human interaction, and yet it is viable, functional, and cohesive. While the Westerner attempts to protect himself by social action (filing a law suit, demonstrating, speaking out, going on strike), the Russian protects himself by showing ever more loyalty the harder he is squeezed. And the difference in terms of civil society is staggering: the worse the situation, the more quiet and “content” the population appears. ” Russian law is written in such a way as to be broken, otherwise the Russians would find it impossible to breathe.
